Explore outside and around the caves!
There is a journal on the table, in French. You can translate and read it if you would like.
There is a journal on the tall bookshelf. The first entries are in French, then the rest use D'ni letters, but represent French words.
You can play with the 5 crystals, and the journal describes how certains ones glow together, but that is not functional right now, so you can just move each crystal between 3 positions.
Open the cupboard (you can open both sides of it) and read the journal.
There is a clue in here for the number pad by the one gate.
The first several pages are in French. The rest are in French, but using D'ni letters. You will need to convert it to French.
Drink a glass of wine, and ignore the random D'ni numbers inside the text; they are punctuation
You may need to translate the French, assuming you don't understand it.
In particular note the 1st entry and the 2nd from last entry:
    1 - 3 de l'hahr 8420
I'm in Toliracha. Ah the joy of stepping into a raw Age, almost unexplored and yet it has everything I need for my projects. Ah! My projects. They will see, all those old goats in the Guild, that my idea can revolutionize the City. Because, I'm certain of it (NOTE: the French version uses feminine adjective, which means the writer is a woman), here I will find plants that will let me put flowers in the Cavern (NOTE: hard to translate. May be "decorate the Cavern with flowers" or "make flowers grow and bloom in the Cavern").
I'm just starting this notebook and I have a hard time describing my emotions from 3 days ago. 3 days hard labor, moving crates, bags and equipment. I ache all over, but I'm happy (NOTE: feminine again), I'm home, in my lab Age: Torilacha.
    21 - 9 de l'hahr 8420
Locks are activated. The code is simple for me, but unfathomable for them. It is the number of days since my arrival here. Even if they read D'Ni, they can't possibly have this information.
From these, use the D'ni calendar, which has 29 days per month, to find the number of days between those dates.
  Solution: 194
Note that the journal indicates that the author actually arrived 3 days earlier.
  Solution: 197
Drink a glass of wine and imagine that D'ni is base5, and find the number 197 in a base5 number system.
  Solution: 742(base5)
Drink another glass of wine, forget that you thought D'ni was base5, and forget that 742 was in base5, and pretend it is 742(base10) instead, then convert it to base25, like you should have in the beginning.
  Solution: 1/4/17(base25)
Enter this solution into the wall panel, which starts counting at 0,1,2,3, etc.
  The gate should open!
